Students will become familiar with the historical and theoretical groundings of Social Art Practice through learning about artists' projects from around the world. We will focus on contemporary case studies that may include performance, media, literature, design, architecture, activism, film, the plastic arts, etc.. We will discuss how these projects operate in contemporary society, and how they may be socially transformative.
Objetivos específicos:During this 4-week on-line seminar, the student will be assigned readings and written exercises that may be written or diagrammatic. The student is expected to discuss and ask questions about the readings, and to participate in the general facetime discussions. The student will be guided through 2 simple exercises as an entry into the world of Socially Engaged Art. There will be no right or wrong; good or bad concerning these exercises. This is meant for the student's benefit only. There will be an on-line drive where the students will upload homework and where they will find readings and resources. Instructor will alert students to reading assignments and other resources within the online drive folders. The uploaded resources for homework assignments will include pdf's, links to current events and various media.

Students are expected to have some English language skills. While this class is taught in English, the student who is more fluent in Spanish is welcome to ask questions when they are unsure of what is being said
